What to Expect During a Tarot Card Reading
Many people, when they hear someone mention Tarot Card Reading, automatically jump to a witch-like woman wearing long robes, bent over a small table, telling you of a horrible accident in your future. This is not the truth by any means, however, as reading tarot cards is not technically even meant to foretell your future. Tarot cards' aim is to get in touch with your higher or inner self, because those are the most powerful sources of information. Before you go to a reading, you should first learn what to expect during it.
The Cards
Most decks available today contain 56 minor and 22 major arcana cards. Each card will have a different image on it that symbolizes an event. Some images may look unpleasant, like the death card. You must remember that tarot card reading is not about each card, but the relationship between some or even all of the cards.
During the Reading
The most important thing to remember is to remember to spare your emotions until the end. Seeing some cards, like the death card, will make you feel the obvious tendency to be scared. Don't worry though, rarely does it mean you or a loved one is going to die. The death card signifies an end to something, like a bad habit, which obviously is a positive event. Do not overreact, because the swing of emotions you would feel would be very unpleasant. Let the reader explain everything at his or her own pace.
The Props
In the beginning, it was not uncommon for tarot card readers to be set up in a room full of smoke and strange symbols or items. Today, however, that is usually not the case. Do not be surprised if they have items in the room, but usually it is not as over the top as it once was. Occasionally there may be things in the room that will offend you, or even frighten you. If that does happen, let the tarot card reader know right away, and they will almost always remove the items.
The Spread
Every tarot card reader has their own methods of spreading out the cards. Some will never let you touch the cards, while others will encourage that you shuffle them until your heart's content. When you ask a question, the reader will determine how many cards are needed. Sometimes this can be as few as one card to answer a simple question, while some may need many more. As a rule, the more complicated the question, the more cards will be used, and the more it will cost.
The Answers
Most of the time, you will go into a reading with specific questions that you want answers to. The cards may have something different in mind, however, and will tell you not what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. If this happens, pay close attention because it may be of great importance in your life. Don't think it is a bad reading because you are not receiving the answers you were looking for, instead realize that you may have been asking the wrong questions.
This brief guide hopefully helped you know what to expect during a tarot card reading. Remember that every reading and reader is different though, so your experience may differ greatly from what is described here.
